Wedding flowers are one of the most expressive parts of a big day! As a Brisbane Wedding Florist, and have done over 300 weddings, I see firsthand how each season brings its own magic, personality, and palette.
When couples begin planning their wedding flowers, one of the first questions I’m asked is: “What flowers are in season for my date?” The truth is that every season has its own magic ranging from the soft romance of spring to the bold textures of winter. Seasonal flowers don’t just look better; they allow your florist to design more naturally, playfully, and creatively. They also help us match your styling, whether you love boho, modern, classic, or native-inspired floral designs.
I won’t lie Spring (especially September and October) is a Florist dream! Spring is one of the most popular seasons for weddings in Brisbane and offer an incredible variety of blooms. You will find ranunculi's, dahlias delphiniums, snapdragons and so much more! Spring flowers are perfect for couples wanting a romantic, airy, “just picked from the garden” feel. I personally love creating bridal party bouquets that move naturally, not too tight or structured, so they feel like they’ve been gathered from a wildflower garden.
A note on peonies: Peonies are a favourite for many brides, but they are only available for a short window in late spring. When they are not in season, beautiful substitutes like cottage roses, garden roses, or double tulips give a similar lush, ruffled look.
Summer brings vibrant colour and hardy blooms that hold up beautifully in Brisbane’s warm weather. Think dahlias and hydrangea. Summer florals work wonderfully for modern styling, bold colour palettes, and statement ceremony pieces.
Autumn is a favourite for couples who love earthy tones and textured arrangements. The cooler weather means more variety and longer-lasting blooms. Autumn is perfect for boho styling — think cascading textures, dried elements, and warm, romantic colour palettes.
Winter weddings in Brisbane are stunning, and the flowers are no exception. Winter blooms are often crisp, elegant, and beautifully structured. You will see tulips, stock, hyacinth and anemones. Crisp whites are always timeless in winter elegant, and effortlessly modern.
Final Thoughts
Every season brings its own beauty from the lush romance of spring to the earthy warmth of autumn. Whether you are dreaming of boho textures, modern minimalism, or native-inspired arrangements, seasonal blooms help bring your vision to life in the most natural way. When you choose flowers that are naturally thriving at the time of your wedding, your arrangements feel more organic, more expressive, and more “you.”
I adore helping couples bring their floral vision to life and can offer expert advice on floral choices for your big day. If you are planning your SEQ wedding whether it be Moreton Bay, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane or anywhere in between, I would love to hear from you.
